Mary Frost Rawlins

 

Mrs. Mary Frost Rawlins, 90 years old, died at her home, 2314 So. 8th East Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, Thursday night.[18 Jan 1917] She was the widow of Joseph S. Rawlins who died in 1899, and who at the time of his death, was a county commissioner and bishop of the Cottonwood Ward.

Mrs. Rawlins was born January 27, 1827, at Knoxville, Tennessee. She came to Utah with her husband in 1848. Mr. Rawlins was one of the men who superintended the construction of the gravity irrigation canals, utilizing the waters of the Jordon river for irrigation purposes. He also was one of the captains of emigration expedition.

Mrs. Rawlins is survived by a son, the former Senator, Joseph L. Rawlins, a daughter, Nancy Jane Kerr, 11 grand children, 38 great grand children, and 12 great-greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Forest Dale Meetinghouse, Sunday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery.
