"First Settlers in Bono Township, (Lawrence County History) seem to be Roderick Rawlins and his 2 nephews, James and Joseph, who settled in the spring of 1812 in section 22 near Scotville. The town of Bono is the oldest in the County having been laid out and settled in 1816 by William Hoggatt, Marston G. Clark and Joseph Kitchell." See:

Roderick Rawlins, a son of James Mason Rawlins and the father of our subject, was born near Bunker Hill, Massachusetts, March 11, 1776. There came with Roderick Rawlins to Dallas County, in 1844, his children with their families as follows: Nancy P. Taylor, Elucia C. Hall, Lucinda A. Keller, Talitha Wise, also his son 11 year old Roderick A. Jr. In 1864 his son William came with his family, and in 1848 Pleasant King came with his family. See:

Roderick A. Rawlins in his biography states that James Mason Rawlings came to America with his brothers Charles Rawlings and Roderick Rawlings some time before the Revolutionary War. The (g) was dropped during the war.
